Research Interests
We are an experimental research group located at Peking University that explores and exploits non-classical physics at the atomic scale.
Our interests lie in objects that are minute –– single charge, spin, orbital, and vibrational modes –– yet can be determined very precisely for use as probes, information storage, or building blocks for bigger artificial systems. We access these degrees of freedom, often embodied in single atoms/molecules but also in solids, by scanned probe microscopy and manipulate them using electromagnetic wave-based coherent control methods.
We are particularly fascinated by leveraging coherence to better understand and use materials, e.g., by identifying functionalities in novel materials or extracting information from many-body systems.
At the atomic scale, only a few physical observables can be detected. Thus, we are also keen on developing new scanned probe methods that can image and control more physical observables with subnanometer resolution.
